Nuts, apples, grapes, strawberries, and individually wrapped Cracker Barrel cheese that I can open (using my teeth) myself.

Hmmm...

100 calorie packs!

they come in cookies, graham crackers, cheese-its, whatever.

100 calories per package, and the individual peices curb an appetite, handle a sweet tooth, and are easy to pick up even with limited hand control.

I worry about packing on the pounds, so I have my pca make serving size ziplock baggies of grapes, celery, melon, cashews, etc.

Since munching is usually habitual, I try to stay as healthy as possible, so I can save my calories for dinner.

good point... I like LUNA bars, but they're the foo-foo version of the powerbar.

shouldn't you avoid carbs tho? I'm always concerned with eating anything lab created like those myoplex bars and power bars... isn't it better to just stick to more natural foods?

I eat a lot of fruit to keep everything moving. Like everyone else says, protein. I get mine from www.allthewhey.com They have a variety of powders including a meal replacement type. They also have an unflavored powder that can be mixed into just about everything. For snacks, I make batches of cookies, brownies, or instant pudding with the powder mix in the recipe.

feisty - have you tried CLIF Bars? (better than powerbars, etc.)

Another snack - fruit cups. Peel back the celophane with your teeth and simply pour the fruit (peaches, pineapples) and juices in your mouth.

Almonds

High protein, some fat, few simple carbs but fruit, whole not processed foods keeps my energy steady. I'm not sure which of these you could do on your own, but they might be easy for someone to make in advance and put where you can get at them:

-- Almonds---raw, or tamari for a real treat. Expensive but give great energy, high in protein and fiber.
--low fat (not no fat) cottage cheese, with pieces of orange or banana or other fruit mixed in
--Low carb vanilla ice cream with half a chocolate soy ice cream sandwich crumbled in
--a regular ice cream sandwich never hurt anyone I don't think
--cheese and melba rounds
--hard boiled egg
--almond butter on apple or carrots or melba rounds
--the little baby carrots that come in a bag are easy
--there are probably some good whole grain low sugar cereals out there
--Occasional (b/c of mercury) tuna (available in those foil packs now, so easy), better mixed with chopped up hard boiled egg
--Oatmeal--raw, with almond slivers or cooked, with fuit (regular whole oatmeal, not the little packets)

Someone worried about packing on the pounds, so I'll give my two cents only because I wish I had learned this years ago:

--Eat dinner for breakfast
--Maybe eat only one other bigger meal in the afternoon, but eat a lot of little stuff (I gave my ideas above) all day
--Eat all you want all day so you're not hungry a night, and don't eat a major meal after say 5, or anything at all after say 8. [If you go out to dinner later with what my dad would call normal (eating) people, take most of it for breakfast the next day.]
--Eat high protein (meat, poultry, fish), vegetables, whole grains, tofu and beans
--Eat mostly only whole foods: processed stuff, esp flour, makes me really tired
--I also feel better eating organic, especially hormone-free meat.

I’m not proselytizing, just sharing what works for me. And I also am ever looking for good whole food, low sugar options to aid my eating all day.
