Is it Normal to pee when I should sweat

I am C5 incomplete and normally do IC's every 6 hours no problem...This summer it has been so hot and humid high 90's. If I am outside for an hour or more I notice I have to pee huge volumes..and I get really hot but don't realize I am hot until it is too late...In other words no warning all of a sudden I am overheated need ice on my neck and have to pee 700 to 900 ccs. Is this normal...do I have to pee because I can't sweat? Sometimes it can be an hour or two after my IC and I have to go again...and I drink the same amount and same stuff everyday..Just curious..it is tough because I can't do my own IC and if I go somewhere with someone thinking I have up to 6 hours and then have to do an IC in two...there are only two people who are willing to do the ICs so if their not with me ...OH oH

peeing

I'm sure the SCI nurse can advise you, but I'm wondering if you have been checked for diabetes?

I also do this. I cath much higher volumes and more often when I get to hot. I was told my body is getting rid of all the excess water in it to help cool me down.

The most likely explaination is that in the heat, esp. when you cannot sweat, your metabolism goes up, which increases your heart rate and blood flow to your kidneys, creating more urine.

Be very careful in the heat. Heat stroke can creep up on you with very little warning with a SCI. Stay inside air conditioned spaces (car, house, mall, movie theater, etc.) as much as possible, drink plenty of cold fluids, and wet your skin down repeatedly (spray bottle, wet t-shirt, iced damp towels, etc. etc.).
