Recently my wife and I moved from California to Washington state. My wife was recieving medi-cal benefits although she was not SSI eligilble. Now that we have moved to Washington, will she loss her benefits or will she be eligible here as well. Thanks for the help.

Medicaid is administered state-to-state, so you will need to apply in Washington for Medicaid.

While Medicaid is partially federally funded, states administer their own programs. Both eligibility and benefits vary by state. Most states have fairly similar eligibility, but benefits vary widely, and many states are cutting back significantly. Most states also have a minimum waiting period for eligibility which averages 30-60 days. It is very important to do your research into these issues when relocating PRIOR to moving or you may be in for a nasty surprise.
I would recommend contacting your local ILC to help you with the application process and to learn about your rights and benefits. (KLD) |
