Wheelchair Fabricator needed in Michigan

My cousin has a daughter with Trisomy 13. They have asked me if I could assist finding someone that can create a wheelchair of sorts that can allow the harness assembly they have to be mounted and disounted easily from the chair itself.

Basically, I need someone in the Detroit area that has the ability to fabricate custom wheelchair components. I figure if anyone would know, they are most likely on this forum.

Thanks

Don't know any but try the universitys engineering dept. They uusually have a design type class and love the PR they'd get from helping. However could be time before it gets finished.

Even a mechanical engineer might be able to help.

We have used National Seating & Mobility, in the Detroit Area. I don't know if they are interested in fabrication, but you could give them a call.

Many machine shops and small metal fabricators frequently work with aluminum. If your cousin doesn't find a w/c specialist, I would open the local yellow pages and make some calls. Make sure that there is some sort of warranty on the work.

No - thought about it once as when I use an old dictaphone machine to transcript I have to use my elbow to run the foot pedal and type with my hands (in college - talk about neck pain!) ... but I never followed up on it.

Seems really neat though and I'd be curious about someone's experience!

You might also want to work with a good rehab engineer. You should be able to find one in your area through RESNA. A local university with a rehab or mechanical engineering emphasis would be a great resource.
