Leg Braces

Just got my leg braces, finally after 3 months of the Ortho guy making adjustment. They seem to fit great now and am going to start standing up on them every day for the next couple weeks and then start walking again doing swing through gates using a walker like I use to do.

The problem was that I outgrew my old leg braces due to using the FES bike for the last 2 years as my legs have got so much bigger and my old leg braces did not fit properly.

It is going to be good to get into a leg brace program every day. I figure I will use them for a half hour everyday. I would like to use them more, but between my FES, weight lifting, Handcycling, working, and now riding my Power Trike on occasion, I am a pretty busy guy lately.

Just got back from the hospital with the braces still on, about to stand for the first time in a long time at my kitchen sink. I find that is a good place to get into a standing position.

Curtis-
Did you feel TALL? Your neighbors will wonder who is looking out your kitchen window! Does the extra leg muscle mass help to stand? (Just wondering)

Curtis,
Why the "swing through gait"? Just curious if you have tried one foot in front of the other?
The reason I ask is that when I was doing out patient rehab 10 years ago they were telling me I had to use the swing through method even though I could put one foot in front... Even though I could do this, they, as much as they could, told me not to try to walk "normally."
I didn't listen and I now walk with my leg braces and two (four pegged) canes which provide amazing stability.
Just curious,
Meeker

Sounds good Curtis, glad to hear that you've taken your exercise program to the next level. Keep up the good work!
