Sci-Step Update

I would like to thank each and every one of you that has taken the time to visit the webiste (www.sci-step.com) or call us at Sci-Step. We have had so many great words spoken about our facility and our program. We truly appreciate being accepted with open arms into the SCI community.

I am happy to report that the website is updated weekly with the latest and greatest!! Our housing option is going to be perfect for all those needing to temporarily re-locate and we do not think that we have left anything out!! If you think of anything... let us know and we can look into adding it : )

Please continue to spread the word about the opening of Sci-Step and feel free to contact me at mbrock@sci-step.com for more information or an application!!

How many of the 6.5 hours are one on one training?

How many employees do you have?

Thank you,

The more good programs we have like this around the country the better off we are. I'm glad to see your program is up and running.

However, I have to admit that I am a bit frustrated. Your program, like Project Walk, focuses on relatively new injuries with some significant early return.

Query: Are you planning on offering anything for chronic injuries?

I've been at The Neuro Institute for about 4 weeks now. In that time I have lost over an inch around my waist. Increased my uppr body strength significantly. Increased my leg mass. Regained movement in my left hand I haven't had in 20 years. And discovered and began to strengthen abdominal and paraspinal muscles. Not to mention bettering my dietary intake.

All in all . . . I have better energy, my skin condition has improved, and I'm much stronger.

What I'm trying to say is . . . why place the restrictions you have on folks? There are a lot of chronic injuries that would benefit from your programs. Why not let those folks have a shot at getting in shape and maintaining their health? It can be done . . . The Neuro Institute has proven it.

We ALL need programs like yours and Project Walk's. I'd love to see both of your programs become more accessible to the entire SCI community in your areas.

BTW: I see that you are using FES.

Snowman . . . is Project Walk using FES as well?

No we don't use FES, we feel that using a spin bike is the same or better...since your are moving your legs yourself.

Bullrider

They don't answer these 2 particular questions on their website...that's why I'm asking them here.

What have we hidden? I answer every question that's asked of me to my best ability. I believe everything that we do has been laid out on our site to the benefit of SCI's...... and other businesses.

In response to some of the comments regarding the Sci-Step program, I would like to start out by saying that we are very excited to join the SCI community and would like wish everyone well, no matter what program they are in. Each facility was created for the same reason and it is good that we are starting to see more and more around the country! It is also great to hear that you are doing so well larwatson! Keep it up!

We would love to eventually accept any willing participant to the program regardless of the SCI injury or condition. However, at this time we do not have the facility set up to handle individuals needing advanced medical attention.

We have suggested that the injury be within the past two years but are willing to accept anyone with an injury that is older. We will not disqualify someone on injury date alone. As a matter of fact, we are looking forward to working with someone that is 15 years post injury and another one that is 7 years post injury.

In regards to the question posted about training, every minute that they are in training they are one on one and most of the time even two on one. We currently set up each participant with a team consisting of an exercise physiologist, an exercise specialist and/or exercise tech. It will be the same team during their program and atleast one person from their team is with them during all training sessions. This allows for individualized attention and training consistency. The focus is truly on the participant at all times.

I hope this information has answered all questions so far!! Please let me know if there are any others!!

Snowman,
Thanks for pointing out that we do not say one-on-one training. I apoligize and I have added it to the website.

As far as the FES, what about the ones that can not use their legs to pedal? I am curious to know how a spin bike helps them more than an FES? We have both types of bikes but find the FES benefits everyone in the fact that they can ride it with or without controlled, voluntary leg movement and their muscles do the work.

Thanks for the support bullrider!!

Snowman,
I never said you didn't,it was Tammy and Ted WE have a problem with. When I was at your facility I never got to work with you or Ted,Tammy. I know for a FACT that there has been people there for a month or more and have only worked with you,Ted,Tammy a tolal of 3hrs. and that being with you, not T&T.

It is funny how the man who DONATED the walking machine, Ted works with HIS SON OFTEN!!!!!

This is what your clients are seeing!

Take the time to ask your clients, and I am sure they will tell you.

Why do you think Foster and his son left and others are planning on leaving tooooooo.

I think you,Adam,Misty,Corey,Heather,(these are the ones I worked with) are GREAT, and I miss them dearly. Lets see where PW is in 6-12 mos.

In Aug. 2002 is cost $1,200-1,500 Feb. 2003 it now cost $4,000 for the new clients!!!!

This does not include living!

When I was there in Feb. I worked out for 13 days, 3 hours a day and lived in a small apartment and my total was $5,000

i would like to take the opportunity to comment on this and similar threads that have been posted on this forum please .this forum has a policy disallowing advertising . this was recently enforced when Steve [ a SCI'd member who has been registered since jul 01 ] posted that he was an agent for a brand of external catheters . in recent times i have seen both MicheleB and Janis Allen join as members and almost immediately post about rehab facilities they are directly involved in and receive monetary gain from . Snowman [another member who receives economic gain from a rehab centre ]has posted his centres newsletter . to the best of my knowledge Arnie appears to have refrained from similar actions . i would think that there has been some overstepping of the forum guidelines . the advertising question aside i am slightly bemused when SCI'd members ask questions on here about a personal excercise programme they can do themselves there is loud silence from the 4 previously mentioned members . at the risk of being labelled cynical , i wonder if perhaps their expertise can only be accessed after some kind of recompense . in my humble opinion , one of the main strengths of this site is that members benefit in a myriad of ways by the free exchanges that go on here . in the above mentioned members cases it would appear to me the benefits are one way traffic . i am sure i will receive some flak for this post , but i could not sit quietly and watch what i consider is an inequity .

thank you
dogger

every day i wake up is a good one .
