Bladder Question

Is there any drug that will help relax the bladder sphincter?

Drug to relax bladder sphincter

HR -- A drug such as Oxybutynin (Ditropan) relaxes smooth muscles in the urinary tract so it would have an effect on sphincter dysynergia. Have you recently had a urodynamic workup by a urologist to determine you have a spastic bladder or sphincter? I would follow up with your MD. PLG

The bladder neck [internal sphincter] can be relaxed with Cardura or Dibenzyline. Baclofen will relax the external sphincter.

I used Dibenzyline and Baclofen for years. I now use Cardura and Baclofen. Cardura is much cheaper than Dibenzyline.

BTW, avoid antihistamines like the plague. Those things will clamp your bladder totally shut! Caffeine and nicotine aren't as bad as antihistamines but should be avoided as well. Alcohol helps the urine flow. Sometimes I'll have a drink if my sphincters are tight. [Sorry, nurses! It works for me!!]

A little alcohol is a good thing

At least according to the SCI doc I have at the VA. One or two ounces of booze helps you to relax and raises the good chlosterol levels.

REMEMBER: THAT IS OUNCES, NOT PINTS. LOLOL

"And so it begins."
