standard shifting

I have a standard buggy and I want to know if I can make it for me to drive without changing it to a automatic?

There is a thread somewhere on this site where a guy autocrosses a ZR1 'Vette with a manual tranny. He has some sort of actuator to push the pedal down, do some searching for it, pretty cool set up.

Isn't there also a hand control setup for clutch cars? I seem to remember reading something about that...somewhere. A long time ago. Heh.

I'm not deaf...I'm just ignoring you!

Check this thread it is my sandrail with a standard tranny. I use a push forward bar at my left side to run the clutch. You only need it to start stop or reverse. Once you are rolling you can shift without the clutch if you keep the revs right. Any questions just ask.

Back in 1980 when I was first injured I talked with a para of 25 yrs, injured in 1955. He said his first several cars were all standard shift. His hand controls were down for the clutch, in for the brake and motorcycle throttle, all on one lever. Doing the clutch and brake together required pushing in at 45 degree and other angles, depending on how much brake/clutch you wanted. He said he got used to it.

bullrider , here is another idea . i assume this vehicle is not going to be driven on the road ? your hands would have to be good for this and there wouldn't be any lightning fast gear changes . you would also need to have your normal [ throttle/brake ] controls positioned so you could steer with the hand on them while changing gears . get an old rachet type hand brake lever [ the type with the button on top to release ] and mountings , probably from a truck so that it is long enough to give plenty of leverage . mount this upright [perpendicular as opposed to horizontal ] and turned around [ so the ratchet locks it in a forward position and backwards is unlocked ] on the floor behind the clutch . the lever needs to move in a line with the direction of the clutch pedal movement . then make up a solid linkage to go between the clutch pedal and this lever [ there would be a bit of fiddling around to work out mounting points on both the pedal and lever ] . to operate this setup you would push the lever forward until the clutch is fully depressed [ disengaged ] , at which time the rachet would lock it in this position , take your hand off to change gears , then push the button to unlock the rachet and control the speed of the lever going backwards [ thus engaging the clutch ] with your hand . i hope this explanation is clear .
thank you ,
dogger
