What's a Mayhaw?

This inquiring mind needed to know too. I'd heard of it, I've never had it.

It's county fair time around here, so I am in heaven!! My daughter (13 yo) made pomegranate jelly that is great on toast and English muffins, when the kids let me near it.

She also made blackberry jam that she baked into a coffee cake she entered. VERRRY yummy!!

My favorite is the red pepper jelly my wife entered. Excellent on a turkey sandwich w/ a little bacon or glazed on BBQ chicken.

Kap,

Mayhaws are native to the soggy swamplands of South Georgia. Mayhaws grow on trees and are small, round, red, tart fruit (about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in diameter). Mayhaw trees are very long-lived, as they can produce fruit for more than 50 years! As Mayhaws have many seeds, the trees have many thorns, and b/c of their small size, it takes many to make Mayhaw Jelly.

How about fig preserves? Yum! I've got a fig tree in my backyard and we're eating them off the tree. Unfortunately the blue jays like them too!

BTW, I found traces of peanut butter in my strawberry preserves this morning when I was eating my toast. GAG!
