Birthday Cakes

Doberge Cake

Well I got birthday cakes on the brain. My office surprised me with my most very, very favorite cake in the world, a doberge cake.

I've posted a recipe for a "beginner's" cake (just has 4 layers), along with a little history.

So, what kind of cake do you get on your birthday?

I prefer pineapple upside down cake..
with an overabundance of pineapple and cherries on top. Basically you can skip the cake part of it. I usually don't eat it anyway.

Just made a birthday cake for my aikido instructor - layer of banana cake, layer of chocolate cake with mascarpone filling in between, and real chocolate buttercream. Yum!

Lindox - If you just like the pineapple part, try this - put some brown sugar and butter in an oven proof skillet, lay out the pineapple slices and cherries just as you would for the cake, drizzle a little more melted butter on top and stick 'em in a 375 oven for about 10-15 minutes.

When I buy it myself, it's angelfood w/ strawberries and Cool Whip. When my family gets it, it's chocolate. Too bad I really don't like chocolate cake. Bastards. LOL

I like ice cream cakes. I haven't had one in years, I keep asking for one on my Bday, but I never get one.

LOL, Lindox - You have my permission! Actually, pineapple is quite healthy, contains a lot of fiber and vitamin C, as well as bromelain (an enzyme which helps break down proteins). So go ahead, enjoy!
