I wonder what Happened? As you know I always post articles with source and couple years ago I asked privately one correspondent from Reuters about copyright.... The answer was, as far as I remember-As long as I post including source & Url & do it non-profit-Its okay!!! Why sudenly your notice?

Max, you're probably right. CC is a not for profit university sponsored site that exists for educational purposes, the source, author and url are included in most if not all of the articles posted here. If Reuters finds this acceptable I can't imagine any of the other free news wires taking issue with it. This is just a cautionary move that hopefully will be resolved soon.

Max,
I was recently told by somebody in the strongest terms that what we are doing is illegal and infringing on the copyright of the material that are being posted. We are currently putting together guidelines and policy concerning posting and will share and discuss with the community. In the meantime, until I get a clear opinion concerning the legal ramifications, just to be on the safe side, I am asking people not to post full articles. I have also restricted the News Forum to be members' only forums. Sorry for the inconvenience. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you. Wise. |

Some News Sites and periodicals or journals charge a fee. I could see where if someone is a member and copies the article to post here, it could be a problem. I don't understand, if the material is on a free site and could be accessed by anyone why that would be a problem-guess I'll wait to hear what Wise has to say, and for the present I will abide by his request.

Thanks Wise. FINALLY!

i fully understand and appreciate your reasoning. may i ask two questions of u regarding this matter, please? i am a high-level quad, and, at times, scrolling is much easier than pointing and clicking my mouse. 1. what constitutes a "news article"? in the past, i have always give credit to the source -- ie: "maureen dowd, the new york times, Source / ." 2. would google news, http://news.google.com/ , also be guilty of copyright infringement? 3. are medical journals considered "news articles," as well? i always thought that the author was compensated by credit of achievement, not by legal tender. 4. last, but, certainly not least, will raven still be allowed to exhibit her exquisite poetry here on carecure's message boards? i believe it is either copyrighted or trademarked. where is the line drawn? thank u, and happy holidays, joy "Now the only healthy way to live, as I see it, is to learn to like all the little every day things." ~ Gus McCrae [JoyT, I edited your response to prevent distortion of the page by the long URL response.] [This message was edited by Wise Young on 12-27-03 at 08:22 PM.] |
