If I want to use an icon from my system as my avatar, how would I do so? Is it even possible?

Alan - If the image is at an URL on a webserver then you can use it directly. If not, you can upload it as an attachment to a post in the Member Pictures Forum and then look at the properties of the attached file to get its URL.
