New Forum? Therapy
Is there any interest or value in starting a new forum entitled "Therapy"? I would be interested in other's experiences, especially with physical therapy. It is a part of "exercise", I guess, but I would be interested in a specific forum that discusses types of therapy, and research into it's outcomes.

We (moderators and Dr. Young) have discussed this, and both because we feel we have too many forums already, and we have been unable to find a qualified moderator, we are not planning to add this currently. Please feel free to post these types of questions in either Care or Exercise.

Diane2,
Physical therapy is many things. It is passive movement, active movement, sensory stimulation, functional electrical stimulation, biofeedback, and all sorts of exercises, and even pharmacological intervention. There are many "schools" of thought regarding what works. Unfortunately, there is little reliable data concerning efficacy of different types of physical therapy. A Physical Therapy forum would overlap considerably with the Care and Exercise forums. In any case, please do post your questions and thoughts to either the Care or Exercise Forum and I think that will be lively discussion. For a long time, Exercise was part of Care. However, there is an emerging movement for non-medically directed exercise being offered by various groups. Also, many techniques and devices are now available for exercise. There was also significant demand for such a forum. So, we thought that it would be be appropriate to have a separate forum. We would certainly be willing to consider a physical therapy forum or even adding the title of physical therapy to the exercise forum. But, to do so, it would be important to provide physical therapy expertise alongside the name. At the present, we don't have that yet. Wise. |
