I'm glad they are looking for the ultimate solution for ALL sci by forming a stem cell research organization for a CURE.

I just hope they are being realistic. With the attorney probably taking 1/2 of this, you would be amazed at how quickly you can run through a LOT of money for someone who is vent dependent, and who may live another 60 years with this condition (or at least until we get a cure). Although it would be wonderful to have this money for cure research, I would hate to see it deprive their child of needed care or items that would improve her quality of life as she gets older....

When I heard the amount of this settlement I thought to myself that the "tort reform" advocates will think this is excessive. I totally agree with SCI nurse that this child could easily need all that amount and managed properly to live adequately with her level of injury.

I of course hope there will be medical improvements / cure that will decrease the need for care.

The article states the company will appeal.
Depending on the company's resources, they could easily tie this up in court for years. Then, the jury award can be cut by the judge. We will likely never hear what the end result is.
