Medicare rehab formula fought

Medicare rehab formula fought

VINELAND -- Rehabilitation hospitals throughout the country -- like the new one on West Sherman Avenue -- face a troubling dilemma.

By 2007, they will be required by Medicare to have 75 percent of their patients fall under specific conditions, which could require rehab hospitals to turn away potential patients because they have unacceptable medical conditions.

If they do not comply, these facilities could face strict penalties and eventually lose the ability to treat patients.

During a press conference Thursday at the Rehabilitation Hospital of South Jersey, U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-2, Vineland, announced he has formed a "blue-ribbon panel" to change this law.
