T10 - Concerns
It would be highly appreciated if someone could shed some light on the following: What effect does being a T10 paraplegic, have on one's lungs, liver and kidneys?

T10 concerns
Shawn - Let me begin by saying that probably the biggest concern in a person with SCI is the resulting immobility and both the direct and indirect, long term consequences, on all systems within the body. However, a person with a T10 injury level has a much greater ability to achieve some form of exercise and activity. This involves a lot of work by the upper extremeties and, for some, the ability with appropriate assistive devices to stand and possibly brace walk.
More specifically, lung function is not altered at the T10 level nor is liver capacity. The long term health of the kidneys, of a person with a T10 injury, is related to bladder function, which has been addressed in numerous posts. Renal tissue is preserved by "preventing high pressures and infections in the urologic system" as noted in "The Outcome Following Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury" edited by Joseph Piepmeirer, MD, 1992.
