peace maker?
Our peace making, oh so God fearing, born again Christian President of the United States has just threatened to use nuclear weapons again Iraq.
Screwing up the economy, and putting my friends and family out of work? I'll deal with it. Screwing up the Microsoft lawsuit? The lawsuit against the tabacco companies? We'll handle it. Condemning us to wheelchairs by interfering with research? We'll push through it as a community, and get up 4 years later if we have to. But starting WWIII? Let's work together to take the bite out of this oh-so-messed in the head executive administration. Eric Texley |

Every morning I open up my newspaper with fear in my heart and asking myself... "what has he done now?".

Eric-
He was just conveying a message to the Iraqi regime: You're going to be held responsible for your actions- if you use weapons of mass destruction there's no guarantee they won't be used against you. It's wise to keep all possibilities on the table, even when they won't be used. The same kind of rhetoric was used in the first Gulf war, some say it kept Saddam from using unconventional weapons. The bulk of our military industry both research and development is focused on conventional weapons. We've spent hundreds of billions of dollars on these weapons because nuclear weapons have no practical application unless you plan on killing people indiscriminately. If you think Bush endorses that policy you're absolutely crazy. MKowalski- Get use to it, because he's going to be president for 6 more years. That means we're going to have to endure 6 more years of your incessant whining. "The only good Democrat is one that's never elected"

Gore
In rare agreement with the White House, former Vice President Al Gore embraced his rival's strategy. ``As presented, Al Gore feels this is in keeping with America's long-held strategy of using our own weapons of mass destruction principally to dissuade any aggressor from using their WMD arsenal against us,'' said spokesman Alejandro Cabrera.

Really I think things like this should be understood but not directly stated, we already know death isn't a deterrent for muslim extremists and with iraq saddam probably wouldn't use WMDs until he knows the end is near and then what good will they do if his country is already destroyed. I do not want to have to see video of all the dead and severely injured innocent people of Iraq as we did with Japan, and who's to say saddam will even give a crap about the people we kill. It makes us look scared, kinda like the guy who pulls a gun in a barfight.

fear in my heart ..
MK , i don't worry a lot about what George W does [ though i don't live as close to him as you do ] , what worries me is that John Howard [our Prime Minister ] has turned into a ventriloquists dummy parrotting Georges lines , even down to saying ''i am deputy sheriff in this region '' . Iraq and the Middle East does not pose as bigger terrorist threat to us as exists in S.E. Asia , particularly Indonesia , with the largest muslim population in the world , round about the worlds 4th biggest standing military force and links having been recently established between the military there and the Bali bombings .
thank you , just my personal opinion dogger |

Nukes
the threat of nuclear war, by any country, is terrifying as the implications go far beyond the area and people destroyed by the weapon. The whole world will be/is suseptible to the resulting radioactive fallout. This is not something to take lightly and it scares the crap out of me.

Don't worry dogger. I'm sure George W. can't find Mitchell, let alone Saddam. And if they do we can use Bob Katter in our first line of defence. They won't last.
DA, you may need to read your history a little closer, and not from a US perspective before you proclaim the US as the great saviour. Specifically, Churchill and John Curtin regarding actions in WWII. Our Prime Minister may be the US deputy and say some stupid things but here are some of GWB's: "The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country." ....George W. Bush, Jr. If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure." > > ....George W. Bush, Jr. > > "Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr. "Welcome to Mrs. Bush, and my fellow astronauts." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr. > > "Mars is essentially in the same orbit...Mars is somewhat the same distance from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is oxygen. If oxygen, that means we can breathe." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr., 8/11/94 "The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century." > > ......Governor George W. Bush, Jr., 9/15/95 "I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy - but that could change." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr., 5/22/98 "One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared'." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr., 12/6/93 "Verbosity leads to unclear, inarticulate things." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr., 11/30/96 "I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr. "The future will be better tomorrow." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr. "We're going to have the best educated American people in the world." > > ....Governor George W. Bush, Jr., 9/21/97 There are more but I will leave it at that.
