Thanks!
Special thanks to Rick Norman, Daryl Silver and the Raleigh Krispy Kreme crew for helping us out with this article (and for all the free doughnuts!).

In the southern United States, sweets fans have been scarfing down Krispy Kreme doughnuts for more than 50 years -- in many families, they're a weekly ritual! The rest of the country finally got a taste in the '90s, when Krispy Kreme launched new doughnut stores coast to coast, to much fanfare. The company's unique snacks have also crept into pop culture over the past few years, appearing in several TV shows and in dozens of national magazines. On top of that, Krispy Kreme has been making headlines in the financial world -- it was one of the best performing initial public offering stocks in 2000.

A tray of Krispy Kreme's signature "original glazed"

All this, as well as some grumbling stomachs, seemed like a good excuse to stop by our local Krispy Kreme for a peek behind the scenes. In this edition of HowStuffWorks, we'll see how the Raleigh, NC, "factory store" transforms raw ingredients into Krispy Kreme's signature doughnut, the "original glazed." We'll also see how the store's doughnut-makers get chocolate filling in the middle of doughnuts, and find out a little bit about Krispy Kreme's distribution structure.

Max, c'mon a Krispy Kreme article in the Life section of an sci website?

Don't you think you're stretching it a bit by posting something like this?

Max, everyone appreciates your efforts but you may want to take a little more care in terms of your selection process because it's starting to look like you're just posting stuff just to post it, like you're bored or something.

Then, when people who come here to read relevant posts/threads, who have limited time, see that its something you've recently posted they may, as I'm starting to do, question the validity before even reading it. This is not an online newspaper. Please try and keep it relevant.

Again, your efforts are greatly appreciated. And believe it or not, the less you, or anyone for that matter who posts often, posts the more credible your reputation and the more the community looks forward to reading what you've offered. Quality and discretion.

Some friendly advice. Peace Max.

Onward and Upward!

Chris(sci poster boy ), I bet mothers of your friends always pointed at you as example for their kids

Not everybody has cushy, executive job as you do, so you better save your energy for time when Feds going to knock your door...

You better explain how your company misled investors...

So stop lookin-who bored-who not

Just a "friendly" advice,

Emi- What or who is Tim Hortons? I have to say that Krispy creme is absolutely delicious, and I think they are better than Dunkin donuts. But Dunkin donuts is good too. Here in Arkansas, they have Shipley's donuts, which blow both the other joints out of the water .

Thanks for speaking on everyone's behalf and writing a whole essay on why this article shouldn't be put in the life forum, Chris .

Tim Hortons is a Canadian national symbol. We LOVE our Tim Hortons Coffee & timbits! Tragically Hip, Tim Hortons & Hockey - can you get any more Canadian than that eh?

Emi, I hate to say this but if you try Krispy Kreme, you will NOT be able to go back to Tim Hortons for doughnuts. Tim's is still by far the best coffee but the dougnuts? Not anymore. We have 2 Krispy Kreme's now open in Toronto area and the lineupps (& drive thru) are about 45 minute waiting times. It's crazy.
