Wish me luck!
(secretary #2)
Tomorrow is my "meeting" with the Voc Rehab guys about getting my own computer and voice software. I'm kind of nervous. (They'll probably think I'm too stupid or something) I hope they can help me out with everything so that I can start taking college courses. I feel pretty left behind since my friends/classmates are Juniors. Oh well, wish me luck. Melissa ps...If i get voice software I'll actually be able to post here again which would be chill ![]() Life is a lesson you learn when you're through. |

Technology
That kind of stuff has come a long ways the last few years, you should be fine with it. It is so much more advanced, I have noticed even a lot of the phone information services and Stock trading services are now using Voice Recognition technology with few problems. Good luck to you, it would really give you a lot more independance and make you're life so much better.

No way. I'll bet you that you will know a lot more about the computers that they will. Wise.

Why do you think you will not get this? Curious.
I'm sure you'll be fine. |

let me lay the ground rules mel. you go to school to learn, not party. you will spend your free time doing your school work, not getting drunk. you will hang out with nerds, not with the bad crowd. school is an institution of learning, not a hang place. do i make my self clear young lady....besides, what you got on?

(secretary #2)
Thanks, B, Dr. Young, Rus, Chris, Chris, Liz, Curtis, and TD. The meeting went extremely well! I guess I underestimated the power of red hair ROFL Then again, maybe all the research I had in front of me helped a little.I met with a Voc Rehab counselor from my hometown as well as a man from Des Moines. He brought a laptop with Dragon on it to see how well the computer and I would cooperate (You know, my chipmunk voice is finally coming in handy ) The software was amazing and I passed all the computer knowledge tests with "flying colors." We also discussed some specs and I held more than my own in the discussion ![]() I should be getting the computer in a few weeks with some training for Dragon soon after. I'll be more than ready to start school this fall. Now if only I could decide where to go...LOL That's my next project. The most surprising part of the whole meeting was finding out that the second counselor was actually an incomplete quad! After the important discussion we started chatting (big surprise with me right...ROFL) and he told me about his fall of 100 feet and the resulting spinal cord injury. The doctors told his family he'd never walk or talk again, but his injury proved to be so incomplete that his deficits are not really even noticeable. We also had a nice discussion on Dr. Young's definition of a cure, which is to basically to restore us to his level of abilities. Overall, the meeting was a resounding success. Now if only the job of ordering my computer is not left up to my extremely nice (but not very computer knowledgable) counselor here in town. I'm going to follow the progress of it all just in case. DA, all I can say is "Sir, yes, Sir"...ROFLMFAO! I'll try not to get into too much trouble (at least not right away ) I did ok back in high school, and it was a lot easier then to be a little naughty. I think I've calmed down a little since then. Since I'm not an expert in DA-speak you're going to have to help me with that last question though ![]() Thanks so much for all your help, B. Between you and Paul I didn't have a chance of failing Don't worry about me using the voice software to post here. Both counselors recommended that I use it to communicate with other people with SCI's. I told them about this site and they loved that I had found it ![]() I saw Dr. Young's post on the sign, but you don't even want to know what I was thinking the "other side" was...LOL I need to get an animation program and a lock on my door before I attempt anything...ROFL wink, wink Thanks everyone, Melissa PS...Tomorrow we are going to get back to work on some emails, but I apologize in advance for how long it has taken. Life is a lesson you learn when you're through. |
