Quotations
I have noticed that there are quotes at the end of some of the members who regularly post on this forum. I have decided to start something a little different and that would be to share any quotes that you like or have meaning to you.

Hi, PN,
My favorite quote as a caregiver is from Mother Teresa - "I know God won't give me any more than I can handle - I just wish he wouldn't trust me so much!" Jackie |

With all due respect to Helen Keller, she was born that way and didn't know what she was missing.

Quote from Earl Nightingale:
Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway. We might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use. |

Quote from Joseph Epstein:
We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we live. Tragedy and suffering will come to you. You cannot insulate yourself from them. You cannot avoid them. They come in their own season and in their own time. When they come, they can overwhelm and immobilize you. When all is going well, our world is a small, controlled experience bounded by our daily rituals and activities. When tragedy and suffering come swooping in, they shatter our tiny boundaries and break our world into pieces. For a time we are living inside a scream where there seems to be no exit, only echoes. The small cares that seemed so important yesterday seem like nothing. When we finally reclaim ourselves, as we ultimately do, we are changed. We have been carried into a larger realm where we see what is truly important. It is our chance to think life afresh. How you respond to tragedy and suffering is one true measure of your strength. You need to see those moments as moments of growth. You can look upon them as gifts to help you reclaim what is important in your life. The human is a resilient organism. We impel toward health, not sickness. Your spirit, as surely as your body, will try to heal. The question you must ask yourself is not if you will heal, but how. Grief and pain have their own duration, and when they begin to pass you must take care to guide the shape of the new being you are to become. So you need not fear tragedy and suffering. Like love, they make you more a part of the human family. From them can come your greatest creativity. They are the fire that burns you pure. |

The Code of the West:
A man's word is his bond--and so is a woman's. Always tell the truth. Always keep your promises, no matter how inconvenient. Speak plainly; say what you mean, mean what you say. Pull your own weight. Work hard, no matter how unpleasant, dirty, and tiring it is. Folks are counting on you. Remember, a man is what he does. Clean living. Do not gamble, cheat, buy on credit, drink, smoke, chew, spit, sniff, or shoot up. Sex is fine, as long as it follows the other rules. No fighting. If forced to a fight, fight to win. Hold your temper. If tempted to hit a man, cuss him out instead. If tempted to cuss him out, count to ten instead. If you can't count to ten, walk away. Mind your own damn business. Don't spread gossip, and don't fly off half-cocked. If you give a man enough rope he'll hang himself, thereby saving you the job. Always wear a hat; it prevents your brains from being scrambled by the weather. You must uncover for church, the National Anthem, and when entering someone's home. All other occasions are optional. Harbor no prejudice. Stand up for justice, especially when it's unpopular. Take care of your livestock before yourself. Never loan money to a friend. If he needs help, give him what he needs. Don't ask to be repaid. Awareness of debt breeds resentment and has ruined many friendships and marriages. Shake hands with everyone you meet. He who complains about the food cooks the next meal. This applies to housekeeping, yard work, and all other routine chores. Be kind to small children and dogs. Never trust a politician or a salesman. Whenever asked to give to a good cause, donate a little more than you can easily afford. Every woman is beautiful. You just haven't noticed it yet. A sense of humor will cure most of whatever ails you. Go dancing whenever you get the chance. Never quit. |

One I heard over the weekend while watching Ghost In The Shell:

Say nothing. Do nothing. Be nothing. |
