"ROCK STAR"
I saw this tonight with some friends, and it was like it was the '80s all over again! It's a fun movie loosely based on the singer who replaced Rob Halford in Judas Priest. Mark Whalberg plays the lead singer of a Steel Dragon tribute band called Blood Pollution (named after a Steel Dragon tune--the band and tune are fictional, of course) who gets a chance to audition for the front-man spot in Steel Dragon when their singer gets the boot. Jennifer Aniston plays his girlfriend, and we see Whalberg get to live out his dream of becoming a rock star--but at what cost? It's got some drama, some laughs, lots of big hair, and headbangin' music from start to finish! I give it 3 out of 4 stars.
FYI, the main song in the movie, "We All Die Young" was originally recorded by Steelheart, and Steelheart's singer/songwriter does a lot of the vocals along with Jeff Scot Soto (Malsteem's Rising Force) and a few others. Actual metal gods are in the movie as musicians too, Zack Wylde (Ozzy, Black Label Society), Blas Elias (Slaughter), Jeff Pilson (Dokken) and others. Bang your head! Metal health will drive you mad!! ~Rus "Because you're not promised tomorrow." ~ Stuck Mojo |
