The weather right after Christmas might be ideal, not too hot, not too cold. I've been to Disney in Orlando post, SCI, and the parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Disney/MGM Studios) are very accessible. A lot of the attractions have spots for your wheelchair, and when I went, my party got to go to the front of the line on everything.

trm, i visited dizworld a few years ago and found it a very enjoyable experience...there is a book available with tips and dizworld has a pamphlet they will send you, as well,,,,when i went my family stayed in a dizworld resort hotel and rode the mouse-transit system to all of the attractions...bottom line was it was comparable in price compared to a hotel and rental vehicle...was much easier...and gave us the most time actually enjoying the joint...least accessible of the major parks...fantasyland...best...all others...there were places i couldn't go and rides i couldn't ride because i had no help to lift me but i didn't fret...just enjoyed the things i could do...bon voyage!...tedEbear

Access in theme parks
I live in Fort Myers, Florida, and have traveled to Orlando every year for the past several years. There are something like 100,000 hotel rooms in the greater Orlando area, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding accessible rooms. Your best bet would be to stay at a Disney hotel if you can afford it. The most convenient ones are the ones that are actually on the monorail line: the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian.
You will find that the level of access varies somewhat. Most of the rides in the Magic Kingdom were contstructed in the 1970's, so there are a few limitations on access at some of them. Everything at EPCOT, MGM and Animal Kingdom is accessible. There are special procedures for some of the rides like entering through what would be the exit for everyone else. Be sure to ask the park staff for details. There are also guidebooks for disabled people at the parks. The best overall guidebook generally is "The Unofficial Guide to Disney World," and is well worth purchasing and reading in advance. This book offers reviews and tips on avoiding lines. They have a chapter called "Dumbo or Death: seeing the Magic Kingdom in one day." We've followed their suggestions and had great success. Also don't limit yourself to just Disney. My favorite theme park is Universal Studios Florida. I've been very impressed with their accessibility and accommodation to disabled guests. They are top notch, and the Terminator 3D show is the best single theme park attraction anywhere. Sea World is also very good. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have specific questions. - Joe |

Dizhotels
Been there twice. The cheapest Dizhotels are the All Star Music and Sport theme hotels. They are not connected to the monorail but have excellent shuttle bus service and the buses are lift equipped. My room had a wheel in shower.
