The Cleveland Clinic
The Cleveland Clinic has major programs directed towards surgical repair of spinal cord injury. I recently spoke to Dr. Edward Benzel who is Director of Spinal Disorders in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic. He gave me permission to refer patients to his clinic, particularly those people in the Cleveland area. He evaluates and takes care of many patients with syringomyelia and other problems. The following is his contact information:
Edward C. Benzel, M.D. Director of Spinal Disorders Department of Neurosurgery 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44195 Patient Office: 216-445-5514, Appt. 216-444-5670 Admin. Office: 216-445-6797, Fax: 216-445-6878 http://www.clevelandclinic.org/neurosurgery email: benzele@ccf.org |

I think that Ed Benzel is among the top four or five spinal neurosurgeons in the U.S. If I am not mistaken, he was telling me that over a fifth of all the cases at the Cleveland Clinic involve the spine. Let us know what you find out. Wise.

Canadian equivalent
Is there a Canadian equivalent to the Cleveland Clinic? How does one go about finding out who is the top in their field? It has been frustrating trying to get info. along these lines.
Thanks. |

top five
You mentioned Dr. Benzel to be in the top five of neurosurgeons in the U.S. Would there happen to be one in the top five you know of in Texas?

Dr.Benzel
Doctors Benzels nurse contacted me in regards to my mrI's.
His suggestions was that if I do not have degeneration at this time I could be considered stable. at this time he doesn't think he can do anything to improve what i already have. If I want to go into this area further; i would need to make an appointment to see \ him at his clinic. perry |

barebackjack, I was just throwing out a comment regarding the best known spinal neurosurgeons. There are many very good spinal neurosurgeons who are not as well known. In Texas, probably the best known neurosurgeon is Guy Clifton in Houston. In Phoenix, it is Volker Sonntag. In Maryland, Tom Ducker is very well known. Wise.
