Pain Doctor and PM&R doc in Tampa

I have just recently relocated to Tampa from Sacramento. WOW! what a change. I have been in touch with two pain docs. Dr. Winston Parris who I really liked, can do my pump and is very experienced but close to retiring----and Dr. Michael Weitzner at Moffit Cancer Center who is more cutting edge and fast moving. I'm in a delima. I feel like I need more time to make a decision but my pump is dictating that I have to make a choice. Any help? Or any info on best docs in Tampa. Thank you , Holly

A doc for your pump in Tampa

Holly,
Not sure what you put in your pump, but have had reasonable success with Dr. Naomi Able (Abel?) with baclofen. She is associated with USF and with TTampa General. I've found it is easiest to reach her through TGH. Good Luck.

I know this is an old post but I tried to contact Dr. Abel about two months ago for an appointment with no luck. I left about 4 messages. I didn't try going through TGH though, thanks for the suggestion Danw.

Holly,Take it from a pump user DON'T do it unless you really have to its a very nasty operation and the pump is very very expensive to maintain, also if you change your mind,it cannot be removed!
Perhaps you could recommend a Dr. for me though as I am moving to the North Port,Charlotte area in two months.I need a Dr. for long term support, not a rehab etc.I am a sci cancer survivor and my pain is being treat with oxycontin, which I have used for going on 4 yrs.now and I am relatively comfortable.Honestly if I could have this nasty pump taken out I would.....good luck hon

Call the SCI Center at the Tampa VA (ask for the outpatient clinic nurse) and see if they can provide a referral. Some of the VA physician may also have private practices, and if they do not, they will know their local competent colleagues.
