Bad c-scan results

I need some advice please. I got my results back today on my c-scan. The nurse called and said I had a 3 centermeter polyp in my sigmold area. I asked her if it was considered a tumor and what was the chances of it being cancer. She said she can't answer that without it beinging removed and tested first. Is that true? And what is the chances of it being cancer? And she is setting me up to go into the hospital next wednesday for a colonoscopy and have it removed. Should I have the gastrologist do it? And should I bring up a possible colostomy? Thanks for all advice.

Yes to all your questions. They need to have the lab check the polyp before concluding whether it is or is not cancerous. I cannot cite the odds of it being cancerous, but if there is a history of colon cancer in your family the odds are increased.

No there not a history of it. But the size of this polyp scares me.

Will you be doing the prep for the colonoscopy in the hospital or will you do prep at home and check into the hospital for the colonoscopy on Wednesday?
Do you know what the prep method will be?

There has been a lot of discussion on this board about colonoscopy prep. Briefly, it is best to start a low residual diet about 4-5 days before the prep day. Low residual foods are white bread without nuts or seeds, rice, white pasta, yogurt, eggs, well cooked vegetables, fruit without skin, fish, and poultry. Start a liquid diet a couple of days before the prep day. Clear broth, popcicles (not red or orange), jello (not red or orange), coffee, tea, ginger ale, sprite, 7-up, water.

Yes, I would definitely have a gastroenterologist do the colonoscopy, since he will be well practiced in polyp removal.

Let us know how things are going for you.

All the best,
GJ

Some insurance policies allow you to check into a hospital for a 23 hr stay [same day procedure]. i have done this in the past [premedicare] for the bowel prep and procedure.

My brother-in-law had a large one that would not heal for a while and he is able-bodied .. was not cancerous and he was a smoker.

Let's not jump to the worst conclusion right off the bat (like me, lol). Hope it all turns out fine.

I found this, don't know how reliable it is.... and that is the statistic on it becoming cancerous in the future, not actually being cancerous now.
