Get off the floor or into bed for $6500

I know that at least a few people inquired about something that would help them get up from the floor after falling out of their chair, etc. Personally I could use something. I read a blurb about this new development today. It may be useful but is it worth $6500?

Might be a lot cheaper to get a hydraulic lift. I got a manual one for about $89 a while back if I remember correctly. I used it before I could floor transfer on my own constantly.

Cool product none the less, but with a $6000+ price tag...ouch!

Another Item for $695. Little much for what it is, but might help somebody.

Fuentes posted an excellent hydraulic lift for $159 US ... I'll come back when I find the link. Dealing with a repair-person at the moment.

I need to learn how to fix my own hot water heater ... It's covered but I hate calling them out.

Of course there is no way that this would be safe or practical to be left on a wheelchair all the time for someone with a SCI. Can you imagine what it does to your skin? How it makes you sit higher in your chair (fitting under a table or maintaining balance or using good manual wheelchair pushing ergonomics would be impossible).

There are other similar devices that can be used for getting up off the floor. None or inexpensive unless you are very strong in your arms and can use one of the ladder/step devices.

Here is one of the powered devices I am familiar with. In the USA, it sells for $1795:

http://www.dynamic-living.com/produc...nt-lift/#clear

It also has a larger "cousin" product. We have two of these where I work, and it can be placed under a backboard to get someone off the ground who is totally dependent or injured in a fall:

Of course most mobile floor lifts (Hoyers, etc.) can get someone (uninjured) off the floor or transfer from a wheelchair to an exam or Xray table, and are less expensive for use in a hospital or physician's office.

Okay so you might not need a 500lb capacity (lol) but I think this looks like it will do the trick and a couple of the guys on here posted about it to access their handcycles, etc. I've kept it in mind for myself .. of course I would pad it all up and everything as well and it does have brakes though I would set it against a wall. I can scoot across the floor rather easily so I'd just have to drag myself and my chair along with me.

Might be fun in the bedroom too? Kidding ... sorry.

I made a similar post a few weeks ago http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/showthread.php?t=192900

Actually, this seems like a really good idea to me. Okay, maybe a bit whacky, but for $159.99 it looks much more reasonable than most other options for the occasional time it might be needed.

Thanks for the suggestion.
