Food Craving

I have never eaten liver or any other organ meat. It most usually disgusts me at the thought of eating it. However, I find myself deeply craving liver now. I was watching "The Meat Eater" hunting show Monday and he had killed an American Bison. As he field-dressed it, he took out the liver and ate part of it raw. I've eaten "nearly raw" beef more than 20 years ago (and liked it), but since watching this show, I have been feeling a need to eat it (cooked though). I'm not sure if my bladder infection and mending pressure sore have somehow depleted certain vitamins and now my body is telling me to replenish or if I just have a curious desire to try it, but nonetheless, the craving is there. My dad is going to cook some chicken livers this weekend for me to try and I sorta hope I like them and solve the craving. Anyhow, has anyone else ever had a craving for a food that they'd never eaten or found repulsive?

Grandma cooked up venison heart/liver and onions for us when we were hunting years ago. It was good! But nobody saves the liver/heart anymore...lol

Stewed liver is much better than fried, in my opinion, I eat a lot of it. Use the juices for gravey on potatoes and you have a meal fit for a king!

I enjoy liver, onions, and bacon. It is best if from a young animal and not overcooked. Chicken livers are quite different than beef, veal, and pork liver. I like it best as a pate. Liver is a very good source of iron. I love braised chicken gizzards. They are one of the best meat protein values in the supermarket.

I tried a piece of chicken liver from KFC. It wasn't good... at all. My dad is still going to cook some soon, but if they're like KFC's, I'm not gonna like them. Perhaps if I get a deer this year, I'll try deer liver too.

It's full of iron. Blecchhh, not a fan, tho chicken livers can be ok.

I got mono as a kid. They told Mom to feel me beef liver. It was a Mexican stand-off, I can STILL smell it! But many ppl love it dearly.

Do you like liverwurst or pate? They are both good liver-y things

I've never eaten liverwurst or pate. Always thought it looked like canned dog food.

Never had bologna? Oh my gawd... yummm. Oddly enough, as I referred to pate looking like dog food, when I eat bologna, I must do so quickly or my 60lb German Shepherd mix dog (Woody) will jump into my lap and snatch it from my mouth. I do believe it is like crack to him. lol
