TightRope Walking
Many people with incomplete spinal injuries can improve significantly
with enough programmed and correct walking exercises. After visiting so many different clinics and rehab centres in the last 9 years I wasn't able to improve to walk without high rolling walker (cart) and knee braces* but I have witnessed so many people with incomplete injuries who made a difference and successfully recovered to any form of independent walking. They were usually exposed to some kind of "torture" of certain amount of repetition, hours, days, monts and years of very hard walking exercises. They were passing through pain and spasm barriers to achieve better mobility. Unfortunatelly some never find a time to share some very valuable tips here. After all, one thing is certain - If there is no enough repetitions, not enough walking, not correct techniques, less chance to make it. Recently, Dr. Wise provide detailed explanation about Kunming military hospital in China experience in extreme walking exercises 6:6:6 (6 hours per day / 6 days per week / 6 months) and techniques of "pulling rope to lock a knee walking". {citation 1 and 2} The whole concept is explained as necessary physio treatment after cell or decompretion surgery but there was note that this type of walk & physio also helped a lot to many patients without any cell or surgery threatment. There is Dr. Wise's observation of Chinese doctor's preferences not to use gait walking techniques, treadmill or braces and to push body to "figure out" how to recover @ most natural way. (In one clinic in Bosnia they beleive in crawling as begining of recovery process). My idea is to use this thread to ask members to post anything related to standing & walking exercises and particularly to walking technique with pulling rope to lock the knee. (tightrope walking - pardon my imagination ) so we can apply some tips for our daily exercises.

I am just coping Dr. Wise's reply to my question in Cure Forum about connecting someone from hospital in China performing program 6:6:6 about "some fine tweaks and details related to individual needs where PT with experience in this type of walking can help a lot answering to specific member questions. I have suggested to Dr. Wise to hook-up someone from Kunming with more time and specific knowledge to Exercise & Recovery forum. I know that language is barrier but simple q&a can be easily google-translated."
