this has inspired me to email ginny thornburgh and i'll ask what she and her husband think of this show. it'd be good to know. her perspective is totally different but i highly respect her careful and deliberate thought process.

i'll copy and paste once i get a response!

Just an historical aside: "push boys" is what Franklin D Roosevelt called the able-bodied young men he hired at Warm Springs to push the polio patients around. This was an accommodation - you could summon a push boy at any time to take you anywhere on the grounds (source: FDR'S SPLENDID DECEPTION by Hugh Gregory Gallagher).

I thought show was good. It showed some of the challenges we face in everyday life. I think the best part was how the girls mother realised how much people can do and are capable of even though were in chairs. The girls have a lot of personality and are hot!!

CG Xiao: Donnie, I don't want to disappoint you, but I think it is impossible to restore the continuity of the cord or "bridge the gap" in the near future, let's say: 50 years. Dr Wise Young has been my most respected scientist in SCI. He has dedicated and contributed to SCI no other can match.

It's a fucking goofy show where the chicks are some fucking skinny bitches who dig wearing animal prints and stillettos. Sure it would be nice to see them working or going to school, and maybe they do we just haven't seen the rest of the series. I don't think they're obligated to reflect us, I think they're obligated to make their show interesting enough to get picked up another season which I hope they do, but I'm not sure enough people find their lives interesting enough to watch.
i think i said it isn't about our reality and i also think i said i meant work, being parents, etc. i also said it's L.A. gloss so i don't see that our opinions differ except for one point: this show will most likely influence the way we are seen by ABs and i don't see that as very positive from the one episode i saw. once somebody makes a statement on tv saying quads can't work in an office, then they have assumed an obligation beyond their reality. btw, do you really think this is their reality? or scripted (at least influenced) by the people behind the scenes?

one more btw, why is your wearing knit capris relevant??

but to say those things about people because they do not experience what you've experienced is quite sad, really. you shouldnt disparage others because their experience differs from yours. yea SCI has some tough times, but currently my life is far more rich and rewarding than most ABs i know. i've been through worse. no one is guaranteed perfection.
Pointing out you dont consider what you lost when others have just expressed theirs [you findi it mind boggling really?] is a way of disparaging them. you can say it's just a different perspective but the implication is yours is better.

I never said anyone is in denial you're confusing my posts with someone else's. But that's great you can hop in and out of your chair by yourself.

on a good day i can hop in and out. on bad days it's more like a hail mary that my butt gets where it needs to be. there was a time i could not... well a looooong time i could not do a transfer and a floor to chair one is just an "break glass in case of emergency" type deal. it's strenuous and painful. but i live alone and do what i gotta do and hope i don't break something.

the implication is not that my point of view is better. if others feel that way, then ok but i know what i feel and i'm definitely not better than anyone. no one is special, including me. and learning new perspectives from others is always a "huh, really? never thought of it that way" moment. mind boggling is a good thing. but then good and bad are relative to the person speaking.

and i prolly did get you confused with someone else
