Wireless printer setup

Hi,

I'm trying to set up my Canon wireless printer but musta skipped a step. I got printer ready, plugged into outlet, and started to install software. It stopped setup at the end and said my computer or whatever doesn't detect the device. What could I be doing wrong or how can I make it so my computer recognizes it?

I didn't do anything w/ my wireless router and skipped the fax setup step.

Thanx in advance.

Is your printer plugged into the router?

I had the same problem setting mine up, just did it a few times till it saw the printer, you did enter your password into the canon right? I did it without plugging the cable into the router, I think if you go that route, you're not wireless anymore.

Your router has to recognize the printer at some point while setting up your wireless printer, so you need to hook it up to your router or plug it into your computer, temporarily during installation.

rdf, no it isn't... I thought that step was for wired connection so went to wireless setup.

trekker, did you put your info into the printer screen before or after software installation?

How do I know if my comp contains a wireless adapter? I use a Linksys router.

If you're using a router, your computer is wireless capable.

Maybe the new printers don't need to be hooked up to the router or computer during installation. I haven't done it in years.

If you have win7, seems pretty simple.

I just followed the setup instructions, at one point it tells you to go to the display and enter the wireless menu, it shows the available routers, you choose yours and enter the password, then it should be connected to the router, then your computer should pick it up, it took several times for me to get it, but just clicked in, a little frustrating, I got my gitlfriends computer on right away.

Thanx you guys. I'll look it over again. I'm so bad at things like these. The links/vid should help. Wish someone would just do it for me.
