Shortcut for activating document map in Word
Does anyone know if there already is a shortcut for toggling document map on and off, or how I can make a macro to do it?

Thanks, Foolish. That worked in earlier versions of Word, but not in Word 2007.

not sure what your end goal is, but is this the direction you're wanting to go?

Thanks, Foolish – worked like a charm, although note that you have to do ALT-W, VM.
And thank you, Strat. I realize I neglected to mention that my knowledge of macros does not extend beyond using WordPerfect in the late 80's. Can anyone tell me how to operationalize that little trick? |

Is it safe to download this free version of PDF maker?
I have had to pay for it in the past.

Looks like they removed it in 2007 & later because it's basically 2 mouse clicks to turn the map on/off.
Do you want it mapped to a certain combination of keystrokes or a button? Do you want to activate it by globally (all open instances of word and documents) or just within an individual/specific document? Please excuse my over-analysis but like most modern software products, there's a lot of options and way too many methods of excuting those options, all depending on what you're wanting to ultimately do. Recommend going to a blank document, View tab, click on the downward arrow under the Macro button, Record Macro from the pulldown menu, and looking over the different option. then hit the ? by the close screen "x" and search "macro". Record or run a macro link. Take about 5-10 minutes to read through the help and get it set up. The basic keystroke-invoked macro is global and will only open/display the document map. Your most recent post doesn't display what pdf maker you're looking at.

Ooops, I meant to put the PDF maker in its own thread. There was an ad for free download from the link you posted, but it's been replaced now.
I definitely prefer keystrokes. The one above works for me pretty well, toggles document map between both open and closed, and is document-specific, as I prefer. But I really appreciate getting some instruction in making macros, because some days I just cannot reach my trackball |

Random, if you haven't already got it figured out or find the keystrokes already given are not acceptable for the long run, please post another reply here. I'll see if i can put together a step-by-step on recording the macro you need using only keyboard inputs.
Keep in mind with v2007 of Word, it's globally either on or off. If you set it to only run within a particular document, you have to create the macro within each of the documents that you want it to display. One of those backwards steps microsoft likes to do to ruin one's day.
