Dr. J J,
Quick CT scans is indeed a major advance. Using multidetectors so that none of the x-rays pass through the body are "wasted", it is indeed possible now to collect the data in less than a minute. The multidetector approach is also allowing the 3D imaging of moving organs, such as the heart. As you know, x-ray has been used for many years to look at the beating of the heart. Such images have been mostly 2D because the detector is a 2D plate of detectors (or film). However, by arranging the detectors around the body and beaming the x-ray in multiple directions at a time, it is becoming possible to visualize a beating heart in 3D. Wise. |
