I've taken them apart and repaired them before.

You might be able to fix the old one so it's good enough to use as a temp replacement for when the next one breaks.
Brand: http://www.venturemfgco.com/
Horizontal Actuator
Motor #8092886
Actuator #7853392

My old actuator was just loose inside and rattled. The new motors have steel gears in them instead of plastic. Its only a 20-30 minute job to change them out. This is exactly the same principle as the lift-gates on race car transporters, except they are hydraulic cylinders instead of electric actuators and a lot quieter. It could be converter over to hydraulic, they make a reservoir/pump combo that could be mounted in my tool box. Its just a thought, but how about opening the door for a backup system?

Dealer just quoted me a price.
Vertical actuator with new gear head (motor) - $750
Horizontal actuator with new gear head (motor) - $575

All new motors have steel gears instead of plastic.

how do you open the door now if the actuator fails?

if you went hydraulic i wonder if you could have a external valve to open the circuit and pull the door out manually or just have a manual back up pump.

We did a Ryno driver pick up back in 2001 it had a manual back up pump in the tool box.

If the actuator fails for some reason there is a manual way to open the door. On the end of the horizontal actuator you use a 5/8 wratchet to manually turn the actuator to open the door. Then go to the vertical actuator and unlock it an screw it down the same way. It takes forever!

Yes, we figured you could release it and pull the door open and push it shut but the vertical lift may be an issue. It just falling to the ground and trying to get it back up.

The idea is to be as simple as possible, kinda like now but a lot quieter and smoother. Then you got the issue of rolling back up the hydraulic hoses like the electric wires do now. An extra pump/motor and battery kinda defeats the purpose of simplicity. It may be better is some aspects and more trouble in others.

Does anybody still have Steve's cell number? He was the original owner. He once told me that they had to slow down the door lift for insurance reasons. Mine takes almost 40 seconds and I need to see if I can speed it up somehow.

I'd be interested in speeding the cycle up too. A 50% gain would put it on a par with the platform lift in vans.

I can get in and out of my Dodge Quad Cab with the Braun UVL faster than I can get in my Chevy with the Mobility SVM lift. Certainly not what Goshichi advertised.

Got the news that the fast actuators were no longer being made plus they did not pass the stress test. When mine go out we are going to take a serious look into a hydraulic setup.
