Check out www.doteasy.com At first glance it appears they are more expensive than GoDaddy, but they throw in a really good email platform FREE with the domain. If you want the domain and are willing to have it forward to another address you already have it is hard to beat www.directnic.com

I get mine at 1and1.com. I use them for hosting too. Packages are usually better deals if you need multiple services. Also, non .com domains, such as .org, are cheaper.

Just needed the domain name, I have a VPS for my website. Actually, I can host many websites on the server. It's all mine! haha

directnic offers domains for $15.00 and $5.00 more to add privacy so that no one has your information as part of the WHOIS search.

Use godaddy, they have a nice admin tool to setup DNS to your server, they do private registration as well. All my domains are at networksolutions, but it is only because I have had some since 98 and they were the only game in town back then, and it is a pain to switch.

I've been trying to get DNS to work just a while ago. I believe I have /etc/hosts file and /etc/resolv.conf both correct, but I'm using the nameservers that johncompanies sent in their email. I wonder if Godaddy is overriding them with their own...The actual url of my server webpage http://www.4-realplasteringinc.com takes me to godaddy's website. If I just use the IP, I'll go the the index.html webpage.

I use to do this shiz all the time, but it's been 7 or 8 years. I've forgotten.

godaddy also has sales every 5 minutes or so, anywhere up to 30% off.

I use GoDaddy & have for years w/ no complaints.

Unless you're buying [unregistered] domains in bulk, I wouldn't worry too much about price. It's typically the least costly part of a website.

Yeah, you have to go to godaddy and in the domain management tab go to the DNS settings and assign www of your domain to the ip address of your server. PM me if you need more details. Or if you want John Companies can do it, but then you have to go to go daddy and let John Companies nameservers resolve your domain. I would use godaddy, once you figure it out it is pretty easy. Also you can get the free version of google apps for email for your domain, to do that you have to set the MX records for your domain to the google mail servers, and that is easier with godaddy as well.
