Leakage and blood in urine

I am on Vesicare for the past 7 months. It has been great. It reduced my urgency and frequency to catherize to a great extent. But for the past one week, I am experiencing that I need to cath more frequently and if I don't, I start leaking. The strangest part is, now I don't even realize that I am leaking, like I used to before I went on Vesicare.

I almost certainly leak whenever I sneeze or cough, which is also something new. I am also starting to feel mild bladder spasms again, which had completely stopped after taking the medicine.

Also, this morning, there was a lot of blood in my foley catheter tube. What is going on? Did anybody else experience this?

I am a spina bifida patient.

I would get to your urologist and get a UTI culture sample taken. I take Ditropan and have been going through this for the last few years.

I always felt bad and had symptoms of infection just before that time of the month - could that be it?

No, it is not that. It has happened for the fist time in the last 7 months.

You may have a urinary tract infection, kidney or bladder stones that are causing the urgency and leaking. Call your urologist, get a urine culture and sensitivity (C&S) for starters. If you have an infection or stones, it is just coincidental to taking Vesicare.

All the best,
GJ

Call your urologist and let him know what is going on. My guess is the same as GJ's.

Hello All,

Sorry for disappearing for so long. I was just swamped by work! (Psst... I am lying, My granma was in town and I was busy with her )

Anyway, the problem is half cured, but half persists. As it turned out, I had an infection back in January and went on Antibiotics. This cured the leakage problem.

BUT, the blood in urine is still there. It doesn't come daily, but I notice a lot of blood in my urobag tube in the morning at least 2-3 times a week. It also only comes in the morning. I got another urine test done and I don't have an infection anymore.

Does anybody know what is this? I don't have any problem, but my mom gets really upset seeing the blood.

Call your urologist. You probably need to have a cystoscopy to determine where you are bleeding from, and if it can be treated.

@ SCI,

Do you think I should go immediately? Bleeding is not a lot and not regular. If I don't take medical help, can it snowball into something big?
