What would be the purpose of a lateral tilt wheelchair? I have never seen this in any chair.

Do you mean tilit-in-space? Sitting in one now and have used tilt-in-space for .. thinking .. 12 years. I have never heard of lateral tilt but I guess anything is possible. Good luck :-)

aims of lateral tilt

Lateral tilt means tilting the seating sistem sideways. It is used for persons with unbalanced scoliosis to change the effect of gravity on the spine in order to give a better balance, reduce back pain, change the areas of skin pressure and reverse shear forces on skin. In some users lateral tilt helps breathing and swallowing too.
Here is a couple of photos.

Wow, live and learn. Just when I thought I knew it all. Thanks for the information. I never saw that before but it makes perfect sense. In fact, it's a real blessing for people who need it. Cool :-)

Really hard to get paid for.
I've done a couple. Don't really think they are worth them.

It could also help when traversing a sloped surface or if you needed to elevate at rest while parked on a slope.
