Transferring to manual on wet floor

The way my shower works, I transfer to a manual after a shower. The problem is the floor is tile and gets very slippery. It's also angled. The slightest pressure slides the chair away.

Lately I've had a harder and harder time transferring in this setup. The slightest mistake and the chair slides away.

Does anyone else have to transfer to a manual wheelchair on a wet, slippery floor? Any tips?

I use adjustable straps and actually strap manual to shower chair after getting manual into position for transfer. This is maybe most dangerous transfer of the day, don't take chances.

That sounds like a great idea. I'll look into the best way to implement this for me and different types of straps.

These shower transfers definitely feel dangerous and unsteady. Are they really dangerous? Are there SCI patients injured trying to transfer out of the shower?

I'm not sure what I'd do if I fell transferring. I was thinking of getting one of these alarm things you wear on your neck, or some fancy intercom, but it just feels weird to me. It's definitely a fear of mine, falling and not being able to get to a phone.

I just threw an old towel on the tile an rolled my chair on it.

(A wet towel that is) sticks very well

There are rubber-like non-slip pads like they use at building entrances that would probably help.

I found for me it I use a towel under my chair that works. althou i have had my chair move on the towel. so we use some rope to hold it inplace. my shower transfer bench is pretty long. we'r fixin to by the shower transfer bench that slides back and forth.

I had same issue and bought a decorative rug with a non slip backing..it is big enough it will soak up all the water and has solved my problem. Also stops the tire tracks that would be all over my white floor after showering too!

I always keep my cell phone with me in my chair or backpack in case I fall.

I just call the 911 if I do..which I have twice ( but not in shower thank GOD!

We've covered a small rubber doorstop with the non-slip backing sold for lining drawers and shelves and place it at an angle behind/next to the wheel nearest the shower bench, and I plant my feet on a damp towel.

However, my ability to transfer safely has become so poor that I'm shopping for a shower wheelchair so I can transfer to my manual chair on dry ground near a grab bar.
