Hernia

In 2004 I had open incision surgery on my bladder and during that surgery to doctor found a hernia and repaired it, but he said it may not have gotten it all. I have an almost constant pressure type feeling in my lower stomach and sometimes the pain is throbbing. I saw a GYN this past week and will be having an ultrasound on Friday to see if the pain may be female related. What I'm wondering is if this pain could be the hernia. If it's nothing female related, then getting checked for a hernia will be my next step. But what kind of doctor would I go to for that and what tests will need done to see if I have a hernia. I know I'll need a referral, but I'm inbetween PCP right now. I plan on making an appointment with a new one soon though.

Hi,

You dont say exactly where the hernia is located but most are located in your groin (inguinal) or umbilical area. If that is the case, you would see a general surgeon.
There are no specific tests done, other than a clinical exam and possibly an ultrasound or an xray if there is concern that the bowel is involved. Can you go back to your previous surgeon?

The doctor that did that surgery was a Urologist. I have since switched Urologists. He was doing surgery on my bladder and saw the hernia. The pain and pressure feeling is a little lower and to the left of my navel. I can't stand for other to put pressure in that area, but when I do it myeslf it seems to ease the pain some. I've had some doctors just pass it off as being related to constipation. Sometimes the feeling does go away a bit when I do have a large bowel movement. But this feeling is becoming more noticable and annoying.
