In my experience, talking about SCI cure I have been accused of many creazy things and insulted too, to the point that I have become very cinical and don't give a damn about "some people" anymore.

I can easyly imagine that for researchers things are even worse.

I have seen several times researchers being misunderstood and accused of giving false hope or BS like that when actually he/she is trying his/her best to find a cure.
If you are giving a presentation in a room you can make sure people get things right because you can take questions etc.
If you are in live streaming you can't control much what people understand no matter how clear is what you are saying.

Recently I have talked to a well known researcher who does not want to talk to the press anymore.
He also pointed out, for example, that people with SCI often mistake a clinical trial with a "cure".

I hope that gives you an idea of why SCI researchers may not feel very confortable giving a presentation to an unknows public..

That was just my opinion based on my little experience.
that makes sense. leos response doesnt. i hate secrets.

This made me feel very welcomed and valued! Similarly, I was completely impressed with the intense dedication and passion each of the researchers had for the field of SCI research. In fact, even while relaxing over dinner and a glass of wine after the sessions, they could only talk about their new developments and ideas for SCI research. I felt both humbled and grateful. My attendance was a profound and thrilling experience for me, and it is one that I have shared with many others in the hopes they will attend and participate. It is an awesome experience.
Yes Grammy. I have had similar experiences when talking to researchers. They are usually friendly and their intelligence makes them interesting even on topics other than sci cures.

The first such conference I attended was in 1984. I came away very hopeful and I guess my only complaint (someone will call it whining) is that there is still nothing for us.

BUT, I believe we could be close - I hope I am not wrong............

Harrington,

I am not sure why an individual scientist may not want their work to be publicized over internet but the most likely reason is that the scientist wants to talk about unpublished data and internet disseminTion of the information may be regarded as prior publication and the scientist the would not be able to publish the work in a good scientific journal. I don't think that it is related to fear of publicity or money.

Wise.

jsilver: "Basic over ground walking has been the toughest nut to crack with this true regeneration technique because so many different sensory as well as motor systems need to work together in order to produce crude walking. And this is really going to be tough in an upright walker like humans where vestibular and cerebellar function are also critical."
Wise Young: "It’s achievable not just within our lifetime, but within a few years, I believe we can fix a person enough so that someone who doesn’t know them wouldn’t know that that person has a spinal cord injury. To me that’s a cure!”

jsilver, what's your opinion, these Wise's "Great Expectations" are somehow experimentally founded or it's mainly a PR-step?

Im particularly interested in whether seeding a biomaterial would be a better way to provide a controlled and sustained delivery of chondroitinase to the lesion. Has anybody explored this?

Dear Kivi,

He really said that? One can only hope, but in the meantime I will do my best to help you understand "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."
