If you use Windows the best option for Voice Recognition is Dragon. Windows Vista and Windows 7 come with built-in VR but I don't think it measures up to DNS. I would recommend a good USB headset with noise-cancellation. It sounds like you need Dragon to do simple tasks so no need to spend a lot of money. If you are using a Mac, then the only choice is Dragon Dictate.

I use Dragon. I can use a trackball to navigate the computer so all I needed is a standard version to type with which costs around $90. If you need to completely control a computer with mouse commands and all that, you can do anything you could with the mouse. I'm not sure what version that starts in but I know premium has it and that's around $180. I use a noise canceling headset, the one that came with it. It's just plug into my microphone jack and is about 95% accurate so long as I'm speaking clearly. Almost all the errors you'll find are from the way you speak, rarely is it the program itself after you've used it and trained it for couple of weeks. Good luck getting it figured out. I tried to use the Windows version but you had to do everything in Microsoft software for it to work and I use a bit of everything.

Also try getting KnowBrainer which work with DNS. Checkout the forums, you can fill out a form and provide proof of disability which I scanned my baclofen receipt, and it's awesome.

The VXI TalkPro USB 100 should be good enough for your needs. I own a pair.
