Anyone Know how to record sleep with Laptop and webcam?

I really want to record my sleep to see why I wake so often during the night. Im wondering if its sleep apnea or what? This has gone on for years both pre and post SCI.
Do you know of a program that will let me do this with a webcam?
Thanks
Baron

I use a camcorder with infrared, connected to a VCR recording 6 hours.

thats a good idea for sure. My resources on a camcorder are a lil limited at the moment tho. Someone else posted some links to a lil how to, but he erased the message for some reason. *hey, it was a good idea and links BTW*
I wanna be able to do it for longer than 6hrs too, As I usually sleep, like 8-12 hrs. Figured my hardrive and recording in mp4, would suffice. Need my computer screen to be dark but not in sleep mode. I sleep with a small nightlite, so i think that would work for lighting.
Sadly I think I wake so often because im addicted to cancer sticks. Its either that or sleep apnea..... l think.
Last time I was in the hospital I noticed a room called Sleep Studies.... I wonder what it would take for them to study me. I feel like a lab rat as of late anyway, may as well go with it. LOL.
PEACE
Baron

A webcam will get some of the data but you really need a monitor for your breathing to know if it is sleep apnea. If you think it might be, discuss it with your doctor and try to set up a sleep study.

I have had 2 studies and have significant apnea. I need to complete a third study to get my cpap levels set.

Just need to get a referral from your primary care doctor to the Sleep Center. Sleep apnea = bad stuff.
All the best.

I would have problems with sleep apnea if I were 20-30 pounds heavier. spasms wake me up though. My roomie confirmed that for me. you seem to be a slim guy. if it turns out you are snoring though, you might be able to use a mouth device that goes over your teeth to keep your jaw from sliding back and causing snoring. Why dont you just go to a sleep lab though, because of your current situation as sci patient, you would probably be approved for a sleep study. Your Gp can refer you.

Baron hi
Wanna easy way
night vision cameras are easy to hook up and fairly cheap cyberguys etc carry em
Also if you have a desktop comp you can raid maybe a elcheapo tv card with inputs for the camera then to trip ot off maybe a timer and a simple battery operated motion detector sensor like off a flood light or something to switch things on andf off in vid rec mode

Theres also special setups like around $100 that are made to hook up to just about any type of computer i've seen room surveilance setups as low as $69 night vision ones that hook to a comp via pci card etc...

I like motion detectors as triggers for surveillance
you can look up these ideas they are fun to build projects also

Have a good day
