the forum needs to get back on track
i am so sick of all this excitement over these BS non-regenerative therapies. soon it will be 2002. wasnt it 1998 when cedar announced its human trials and we were all planning a big wheelchair bon fire. 4 years later all im reading about is fancy new cushions and new buildings and everyone jumping up and down like you just won 10 million dollars. what happen to our thirst for a cure. i come back to 50 million inquires on non-regenerative therapies. why havent anyone said stick that non-therapy up your dairy-air and bring on the cure. i believe the reason sci research has come to a complete stop is because they were able to buy/intrigue us with implants, fes, and super cushions. hats off to those whom had first generation surgery, but the rest of us dont need to be selling out. what i mean by that is this. these non-regenerative therapies are crums. there is a big turkey feast cure in the next room. we just need to bust down the door. the science and technology is here to cure us. i repeat. THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IS HERE TO CURE US.

DA
You're right but we don't have the collective mindset to "bust down the door". We're just a hodgepodge of people without a consistent, LOUD, message.
We need organization, manpower, maturity, a message and a focus as to what we want. I'm willing to help create it, start it, join it or fund it but I want to be confident that others are also willing to participate. Not lip service, but real participation (work). I'm not selling out, just working within the environment dealt. You have to admit it DA, as a group we haven't been able to get it together so far. Unfortunate, but true. How do we turn it around? |

DA i understand
your frustation and if ever your willing to strom the white house i'm there but ,i don't think it's a lack of compassion or desire that we don't make more noise, i think living day to day with SCI takes most of your focus, and like me with 3 kids depending on me it's hard to put myself first even though i know thats what i should do. and i'm not the only one ive planned to go to ecuador for dr kao's procedure just to get some return while i sit on my ass and wait for a[the] cure. you are so right i beleive a cure is here but we're talkin money and politics so it takes a big movement to get attention and thats what we need. hell we go to war and people are protesting for the other guys!

WJM, I'm guessing DA spelled it 'Dairy-air' for emphasis.

It is true that things are a little slow. I have the feeling, however, that it is the lull before the storm. In about 3 weeks, the Society for Neuroscience meeting will take place. I keep hoping that we will hear news of the Cheng study coming out. In the meantime, I think that the news media is very preoccupied with anthrax and terrorists. This is a very important time to pay attention to all the journals because articles of papers that will be presented at the Society meeting are beginning to show up in journals.
News concerning spinal cord injury advances have virtually dried up because every reporter is now writing about bin Laden and his cohorts, or stories of people who have been touched by the attack on the World Trade Center or powdery envelopes. Sigh. Wise. |
