Mystery wound!
Hi i'm a C3q, my PCA put me to bed last night my feet were ok. This morning she went get me up and notice my feet were bloody. How did it get this way? she asked, my feet do not touch anything at all during the night. It looks like I should go to hospital today and get it checked out. Anyone else ever have this happen, first time for me in 27years. See pict please.

Were you wearing heavy sheets or were they tucked in extra right? Anything on the end of the bed - footboard?
I really have to be careful with mine or they'll redden quite easily. Do you have a pet? Maybe they pounced on your feet or slept on your feet? |

Boy, it is hard to imagine what may have happened overnight. There is quite a layer of skin gone on the big toe. Meanwhile, what have you decided to do, what have you done to treat it? Guess if it were me, I would wash it gently with a mild soap. Dry it and then keep my foot open to the air for the next several days to promote healing. You might even want to elevate it, if you notice any swelling during the day. I would keep the toes uncovered at night as well.
Take care and let us know if you find anything that may have caused these sores. All the best, GJ |

Hi,
Possible explanations could be those offered above. Also, were you wearing some tight footwear or stockings during that day and this breakdown was a result of that earlier wearing? From the picture, it looks like it is superficial and not deep. If this concerns you, you could have it checked out by your provider. If not, you could try saline soaked gauze on it, changing daily, and see what occurs over next few days. Are you diabetic? or circulatory problems in your feet? If so, I would definitely have it checked out and healing monitored more closely. Once these are healed, you may want to consider some type of foot protection in bed such as prevalon boot (google this product) or something similar. AAD |

Went to the Doc's this morning and they didn't culture it but did draw blood. Hours later came back and said that they couldn't tell what happened, but tthat it was a superficial wound. They prescribe some antibiotics and said if it get worse to come right back. I just can't figure out what went wrong! Unless my PCA is leaving something out! I've known her for two years and seems pretty honest. Anyway, thanks for all the feed back it is very comforting knowing you are not alone on this.

Ants? When I was a yungin living in Texas the ants crawled up my bed and ate between my toes at night. Of course I caught them in the morning and sprayed the place with Raid, but it happens. I even heard of a cat chewing on someone. Mice? I'm just saying...

I am so glad you got some medical attention to these sores. After prescribing antibiotics, did the doc tell you how to manage, ie., take care of the sores you have?
Take care of yourself and all the best, GJ |
