Nikon D7000

Any members here going for the Nikon D7000? And would also love to hear what kind of gears you all are using. I am currently shooting with the Canon Powershot A610 but seriously thinking of going DLSR. The wife is using a Nikon D60 which I use occasionally too.

I used to shoot professionally, but have backed away from it. I had a D700, still a D2Hs, a handful of lenses, and some Canon DSLR stuff too. I've been slowly getting rid of it all. For any serious work these days (side projects, basically) I use a Panasonic/Lumix GF1.

For fun everyday stuff I use my iPhone. It's liberating to not have so much gear to haul around.

i have a canon dslr and a nikon p70, the p70 takes just as good pics and is much like a point and shoot. the only benefit of the canon is wide angle and lots of zoom, but those lenses are really expensive
the pic with date stamp is Nikon(date is wrong, it was this year), other pic is with canon. i'm new at photography and was my first time using canon, there is a lot more detail in pic with canon

Wow, Scott, you are on both sides of the fence. I would I could afford to own both makes, and may a Sony as well, as they have their own advantages over the others. For now, I am going the Nikon way so that my wife and I can share lenses and speedlights.

I agree that lugging all that gear is a pain, especially when I have to take my CIC kit with me when I go out. I have checked out the GF1 but I could not hold it tight with my limited hand function. I need something bigger for better grip and something heavier to reduce camera shake. The GF1 felt solid in my hands though.

The Nikon P series takes some pretty good pictures from what I have seen so far. Those 2 photos of the snow-capped mountain were breathtaking. The thing I like about with DSLR is that it captures more details overall as compared to compact cameras but the latter is catching up fast. Thanks for sharing the photos. I like them very much. Too bad we don't have snow covered mountain here in Malaysia.

I started with Canon but eventually moved toward Nikon due to their 10.5mm fisheye & the 9-step auto exposure bracketing on the upper-end bodies. Live & learn. Cameras are tools & i'm not committed to one brand over another. I used to run a real estate photography business with my brother... we made money with this stuff. The days of being able to justify owning this stuff are almost gone.

After SCI, I sold all my SLR cameras. I only use a digital elph canon or my iPhone for pictures. I crutch walk and there is no way I can carry the weight of an SLR, nor can I balance and look through a viewfinder. For just recreational photography, it is amazing what one can accomplish with a point and shoot Canon Elph if you know how to control the exposure. Plus a little help from Photoshop afterwards. I probably should get the best point and shoot pocket size camera out there. Any suggestions?

jschism - is that Mt. Shasta?

scott - What kind of service do you provide in real estate photography? Sounds interesting. I am upgrading partly also because the D60 does not have AEB with the video mode in the D7000 being another plus point. I want to try my hand at shooting videos.

arndog - I chuckled a little at the line where you said "point and shoot pocket size camera" because point and shoot cameras have evolved to become bulkier and heavier over the years. Makers nowadays also have the sense to go large aperture and superzoom in compacts which makes it more interesting to shoot with one. I am not sure about the best P&S but I am sure you will be spoilt for choice where price and features are concerned.
