News Advisory:

Experts from the North American Spine Society (NASS), the nation's
leading multidisciplinary organization that focuses solely on
research, education and advocacy related to quality spine care and a
vocal presence in the current debate over federal funding for stem
cell research, are available today to provide comment and insight as
President Bush has made his decision whether to move forward with
federal funding for stem cell research.

Representatives from NASS can provide answers to several key
questions, including, but not limited to:

-- What exactly is a "stem cell" and how do researchers obtain
them?
-- Why is stem cell research so important, specifically to spinal
cord injury?
-- What is the difference between embryonic stem cells and adult
stem cells? Why aren't adult stem cells as useful as embryonic stem
cells?
-- Is there research currently being done using embryonic stem
cells?
-- What will happen to medical research in the United States if
President Bush halts federal funding for stem cell research?
