One Arm Dove Hunt Sep. 10-11

For the past 39 years, one armed men, women, and children have traveled to Olney from all over the United States and other countries, not only to hunt dove, but to take part in what has become " TEXAS' MOST UNUSUAL EVENT"....Olney's Famous One Arm Dove Hunt.

Coincidentally I am sitting by the window enjoying the dove's gentle calls. It is a peaceful part of my day.

Quote:
The event grew quickly, spread only by word of mouth, so the Jacks expanded the event to two days and included events such as one-armed trap-shooting, one-arm horseshoes, cow-chip throwing, and a "10-cents a finger" breakfast on the day of the hunt. The primary purpose of the event, though, is for upper-limb amputees to exchange stories, find friendship and support, and swap tips for living with missing upper-limbs, as well as providing the small community an annual revenue-generating event.
Now that's funny!

Oh wheelz99, I wish you would not shoot doves.
I grew up on game, so no one bite my head off. I just wish people would not shoot doves.

but they're so good in gravy linda. i bet u didn't know that 50% of the dove population dies every year with or without shooting. that's just the way it is. i can't help it if i'm at the top of the food chain.

Cruel! I do love animals and I don't get the appeal of hunting for sport, but I eat meat, so I can't get self-righteous without being hypocritical. I do look at cows in the field and think they're so cute, but I've eaten them my entire life. My honest hope is that animals, if killed, are taken out humanely.
