Conversation with my neuro

Wise, my neuro called me today and with my prodiing indicated the following:

1. I would need remyleination in several areas of my spinal cord.

2. I would need some nerve regeneration; remember I'm an incomplete.

3. He acknowledges my daily workouts and said to continue and perhaps more would return with time.

My question to Wise is; can I benefit from your stem cell therapy?

I'm tired of responding to people of my progress and trying ot let them think that progress is occurring. I can't stand without a walker, have no balance , and walkwith my arms.

I'm hoping and yes, praying that stem cell therapy will become available and I can take part in it.

Keeping on,

I don't know whether you will benefit from umbilical cord blood mononuclear cell transplants and lithium. That is why we are doing the clinical trials. The transplanted cells should provide a hospitable environment for axonal growth and the lithium should stimulate production of growth factors that are known to cause regeneration.

In the U.S. the trials will be focussing on patients who are ASIA A. However, in China, we are planning to include patients that are "incomplete". The reason why we are not including "incomplete" in the U.S. trials is because we don't have enough money to test both in the U.S. whereas in China we would be able to do a larger trial that includes both complete and incomplete injuries.

If the trials show positive results in incomplete patients, I am sure that the treatment will be rapidly applied to people. One of the reasons why we have chosen to test umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells is because it is available in quantity for treating people, if the trials show that the treatment is beneficial.

Finally, please calm down. You are going to burn out. Please don't. I understand that people are impatient and frustrated but it doesn't help for you to ask every day, over and over again. Things do not move so fast in a clinical trial. Patients have to be interviewed and given time to decide. In the meantime, we are working like crazy to start the trial in China.

Wise.
