Mattress while traveling suggestions please!!!

o.k. at home I use a Pegasus Airwave Trinova mattress and can sleep for hours or days on my back and sides with no problems at all. when we travel and i have to be on a hotel mattress my skin takes a beating. We have tried taking a piece of memory foam, egg crate, 4" Roho, 2" Roho with us to put under my lower back and hips but non of them work very well, in fact sleeping with a 4" Roho under your middle section is very hard. Does anyone have any ideas that I may have not tried yet besides turning every 2 hours?

Thanks

I used to bring a cheap pool air mattress like this: http://www.amazon.com/Color-Brite-Po.../dp/B002WOMF6Y
It works like a charm and folds up small for packing.

We drive where ever we go but I bought a blow up mattress on legs. I got it from Front Gate. It comes looking like a suitcase, you unzip it plug it in and turn on the motor, it opens up and forms a full size bed, regulation height, with it being on legs I can use the hoyer lift to put David in it or he can transfer from his chair fairly easy.

Roho makes several inflatable full bed (twin sized) inflatable overlays. These vary from the full mattress Roho Dry Floation system overlay to the less expensive Prodigy overlay. Both are inflatable and can be packed up into their own suitcase for travel.

I have also had success in obtaining and using a Gaymar Softcare inflatable overlays for my clients to use for travel or camping. These can be obtained with a small adaptor that allows inflation with a bike pump. They are less expensive than the Roho products, but also have higher interface pressures and a shorter warranty. They pack up even smaller and could fit into your large suitcase.

Of course no matter what you are on, turning is still strongly recommended both for your skin and your lungs.

Thank you everyone they are all great ideas but the only area that is a problem is my middle section, from the back of my knees to my lower back and I have tried Roho cushions with no luck. Would gel be better?

Gel is incredibly heavy, and not much better at pressure reduction compared to good quality foam or air-filled overlays. You will be more comfortable, and have a better pressure profile, by using a whole mattress sized overlay.
