Question about rim tape/tire tubes

I have a pair of Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires but I woke up one day and one of them was flat. (I use Schrader valves by the way.) I was able to successfully re-inflate them which leads me to believe the tube burst and some how it's no longer leaking air or the valve failed. (Although the cap is still there... ??) I want to get some 145 psi Right Runs any way... (I want grey ones because I have green Dino wheels and green/grey are Portland State University colors... my brothers college.) Would anyone be able to recommend a good high quality rim tape for high pressure tires? Would you recommend thorn resistant tubes? Would Presta valves be better?

Go with Velox rim strips. Any bike store should have them.

You could do a hi-pressure rim strip with an old tube, or buy one

I like schraeder tubes over presta...I do not need to find an adaptor for the schraeders.

You don't need an adapter for Presta either if you get a decent track pump. A good track pump is not an option when you want to reach 145 PSI without regular explosions. I use a Blackburn Air Tower V.

Presta is a superior technology. Name a bicycle team that uses Schrader. There's a reason for that. The internal pin is more prone to leaks than Presta which is a simple flap.

You can't use the gas station pump anyway if you need to go above 45 PSI. Also, automatic pumps are not precise to begin with.

Yes. I've used Velox tape/strips and it's great.

I know Presta is better, but I just find that Schrader is easier. If you keep the valves clean and keep caps on them they should be fine.

I think the biggest determining factor/reason between the two different types of valves is the size of the rim...think about it

And another thing you might be right if you are talking about the gas station pumps that you have to pay to use but otherwise you do not have a limit of 45 psi from any decent air compressor

Wasn't talking about gas station pumps, My tires do take 145 psi...and even if they did not, I still would rather have schraeder since most pumps that I have seen at sporting events and in homes all are schraeder valves and not presta. Also...the presta pin bends if you do not get the adaptor on correctly. I have had more issues with presta than I have schraeder. Much rather use what works best for me.
