Anyone have a Dock n Lock?
So I've had my van further modified so I can drive from my chair (lowered floor all the way) instead of a 6 way power seat (got tired of telling my kids that 'mommy can't take you there because its too many transfers). Went to the installer yesterday to get the locking device installed. I have an Invacare Storm TDX5 which is supposed to work with the Dock n Lock, which I was happy about as the Dock n Lock is supposed to give more clearance/get hung up less than the Easy Lock.
Long story short, the installer can't make it work with my chair - I need another 5/8th of an inch clearance...can't raise the floor or my chair anymore as my knees practically touch the steering wheel/hand control as is.... Of course the manufacturer was closed by the time they figured out that it wouldn't work...so hopefully its some stupid silly easy fix that they find out on Monday. But the stupid DME still can't continue working on my van until Thursday because they have other projects...WTF? don'y you finish one project before starting another? Am I less important than the other people? So here I am back home (the DME is 3 hours away) disapointed to have no van and very pissed to have no powerchair (I'd had my dad trailer my powerchair down) as where I live a manual chair is impracticle for all but the strongest paras. Its supposed to be nice all week too...and I'll be stuck inside... On a postive note, if you ever need a Canadian DME - choose Medichair, they care! They are my usual company, I was using the other one due to insurance, and when we explained our problem they said they can try to fix it Tuesday if its a simple case of reading the instructions wrong or something.... Sorry so long, just had to vent. If anyone has experience with the Dock n Lock or ideas please let me know.

I have the Dock n Lock. We just used washers to space it up enough. That might be just the opposite of what you need.

It is my understanding that the DIL comes with spacers to shim it up, unless they used them all already.

I should explain better.
With the locking mechanism/plate on the floor of the van my chair does not clear the mechanism, the battery compartment hits. They tried a demo/brand new TDX and same thing so its not my chair that is defective.

I recently got a new chair and now use the DIL system instead of EZ lock as a passenger in my minivan. It comes with a plate that can be installed underneath the locking mechanism to raise it up if needed. I wonder if they have that installed? I don't see how anyone in the business couldn't see that, if that's the case. Then again...
I hope you can find a solution soon because that system does give you more clearance. Before going to the DIL, I used to snag all kinds of things and so far those days are gone. And when you lock into the receiver, it's quieter and does so with ease. I know EZ lock is by far more popular, and the DIL bracket on the chair isn't quite as thick as the EZ lock bolt, but if you're in an accident I'm fairly certain it would hold up just as well as any other safety device with DOT approval. |

I'm worried about the same thing Emi. As you may have read, I am trying new electric chairs and they are all so low. I'll be forced to use a edock n lock almost. |

update:
the dme found a solution in conjunction with the Dock n Lok manufacturer. They raised my battery box up a bit to get that bit of clearance I needed. Its weird to be up so high but I did drive the van 3hours yesterday to get home and it went fine. I'm excited to run errands now - takes me longer to unbuckle my 2 year old than to get myself in position!
